Click here to access.   Earlier  this month, SHRM made the bold move announcing that they will no longer have a maximum limit on self-paced activities. Previously, they capped the self-paced activities such as book reading, online learning, webcasts, and podcasts at no more than 30 credits per SHRM recertification  cycle. Changes to SHRM Recertification for SHRM-SCP and SHRM-CP I say bold because SHRM previously was focused on live workshops, conferences, and other events serving as the bulk of where HR certified  leaders could obtain their SHRM-SCP and SHRM-CP recertification credits. This announcement by SHRM follows suit with HRCI which also has no limit to self-study and online classes for all their certifications including  aPHR, PHR, GPHR, and SPHR. Having been a proponent of online learning and personal development for some time, I am very excited that SHRM has made this decision. As business leaders, our work and personal lives are becoming grayer  making traditional classes, workshops, and conferences more challenging to attend. This on top of the fact that so much of our lives are influenced by online activities while the number of online educational resources are growing by the day. This is why uncapping self-paced learning for SHRMs HR recertification makes sense. SHRMs decision to uncap self-paced learning is not without challenges for the worlds largest HR community. Self-paced courses and credits are more challenging to monitor for SHRM, and I, have noticed an increase in the number of HR professionals who are HRCI certified be audited. This is in part because certified professionals can manually submit credits that are not previously approved for recertification. As an approved and certified  provider for SHRM and HRCI, it is time-consuming to submit courses for pre-approved recertification credit. There are many, many hoops to jump through. Like HR certified professionals who are dual certified, we also have to navigate both systems submitting them separately and keeping track of certification course numbers for both credentialing bodies. So let me say that I understand the challenges that HR certified professionals face especially since I, also have to go into the recertification portals and enter in my courses, classes, membership, and work experience credits.
