Ask James How do I re-submit my CV

Ask James How do I re-submit my CV by James Reed Not sure how to get your new and improved CV in front of the right people? In his monthly column, career coach and Chairman of reed.co.uk, James Reed, shares his expert advice to help you tackle your biggest career concerns. This month, James gives his top tips on how to get an updated CV back in front of recruiters:The Question:Hi James, I hope you are well. Can I just start off by saying that I have just completed your book and I thought it was an excellent and extremely insightful read, and I am not a keen reader at the best of times. I grabbed the opportunity to purchase the book to obtain some crucial advice at a very important time for me. I have recently made the decision to explore contracting opportunities in the financial services sector and intend to leave my position at one of the UK’s leading banks for over ten years and this is great support mechanism for trying trying to make the transition. One question I have, which is not specified in the book, is how do I approach getting revised CVs back in front of relevant agencies if I have revamped my CV after reading your book?Do I simply re-submit it via their websites and hope for the best, or do you have any steer on a more appropriate approachI appreciate that you are a busy man, and I hope this is the type of insight you are looking for to support with future editions, but I welcome your advice on this one if you have the time to reply. Many thanks and once again great work.SimonThe Answer:Dear Simon,Thank you for reading my new book The 7 Second CV. Im glad you found it helpful. The answer to your question really depends on the method you used to submit your CV previously, and how long ago you sent it.If youve applied via job sites, there should be a way to change or update your CV on your profile. On reed.co.uk once youve clicked Apply now on a job description page, the title of your current CV will appear. If you want to send a different CV, simply click Change CV and your CV will be updated for any future applications. In the case that you have already applied for a job, if you feel strongly that you would like to upgrade your CV, you could contact the recruiter directly using the email address on the jobs applied for page. Similarly, if you have applied directly to an employer, try to establish who is responsible for reviewing applications and then contact them directly either by phone or email. Its as simple as saying, I applied for X role, and you dont have the most up-to-date version of my CV. Would it be possible to update my application with the latest version? I can email this to you, is this the best email address to send it to?This way you can be sure that the hiring manager or recruiter will have a copy of your most up-to-date CV.Thank you for writing Simon. I hope this helps, and good luck with your job search. With good wishes,JamesFree CV templateCV examples and samplesIf you’d like James to answer your career query, tweet your question to @James_A_ReedLooking for more CV advice?  Download The 7 Second CV now
